Coaching project

City Lit is working with a range of partners in the homeless sector to develop and deliver coaching training for frontline workers. The aim of this project is to offer high quality, relevant, sector-led training and tools that will support staff in their work with clients.

The training will harnesses the skills and experience of managers, team leaders and frontline staff to develop training that fits their needs. The project will result in the development of a new training toolkit that will be informed by those managing services and those working directly with service users. The project will encourage frontline workers to think about support work in a different way and to share good practice.

Training programmes will be delivered from September 2011 – September 2012. Courses are 2 days long, focus on developing simple but effective tools, giving participants a deeper understanding of why their clients resist change and how to overcome this.
Learning objectives:

• To provide an understanding of the principles of coaching
• To understand the role of the coach
• To understand the process of transition
• To understand the role that coaching can play in supporting clients through periods of change
• To enable participants to introduce coaching into one-to-one support with clients

Training will be delivered at City Lit and at partner organisation sites. Participants for each course will be drawn from a number of organisations and be tailored to take account of the context they work in day-to-day.

Participants will be supported between training days through an online discussion forum and feedback from tutors. A toolkit of resources will be developed that participants can access to support them in applying their new skills in their work.
