I studied French and amazed myself by ending up at university

Image of Jenny Helfet, City Lit student “I always had a desire and passion to learn French,” said Jenny. Having followed this interest in various ways throughout her life, she came to City Lit to work towards the A level exam. “Inspired by my teacher, I applied for and was awarded a place at King’s College, London, to read French. Registration day was one of the happiest days of my life.”

Jenny’s children both have degrees and her studies have enabled her “to engage, converse with and hopefully stimulate them.”

After graduation, Jenny returned to City Lit where she now studies French literature and culture. “Learning for me is life itself. It is the underpinning of the more confident person I have become.” She also appreciates “the friendships one makes at City Lit. It broadens one’s knowledge of the different sorts of people that live in London that are really worth knowing. I feel like I can engage with the 21st century as a result of all that I acquire in terms of knowledge and confidence from City Lit”
