I wanted to change path and focus on a career in ceramics

Lesley was working as a marketing manager for a mental health charity after working in media and communication for 20 years, when she started the course HE Diploma in Fine and Applied Art – Ceramics at City Lit. “I needed to discover and refine my own distinctive voice in ceramics”, says Lesley.
The intensity and reputation of the course appealed to Lesley: “the final shows that I had seen, in my opinion, were streaks ahead of equivalent University courses elsewhere.”
By the end of the course, Lesley had left her job in marketing, and decided to focus on Ceramics, taking on the role as technician in the City Lit ceramics department. Lesley, and other former students, now have work on show at the V&A, and have a stand at the New Designers exhibition at the Business Design Centre.
Lesley now wants to develop her own ceramics practice in her studio at home, using her marketing skills, and wants to build up experience of teaching ceramics to adults. She has also booked into two further art courses at City Lit.
