Update from the Principal

City Lit is working hard to raise money for our bursary scheme to help less well off people attend courses at City Lit.  I was delighted to receive a letter from a London Livery company, The Worshipful Company of Basketmakers’ Charitable Trust, with a generous donation of £1,200 which will go to our bursary fund. This will help people such as Cathie:
“I have a chronic health condition and have not been able to work for the last few years. I wanted to do a course because I thought it would benefit my health and well being. Not working and being a single parent, I did not have the money for the course. I’m really grateful for my bursary – the course has given me new focus that has challenged me without being too stressful.” Cathie Hammond, Holistic massage.

Two very good bits of news today; Firstly, Nigel Hume, one of our students on the volunteering course for homeless people, won the European Social Fund Personal Achievement of the Year award 2009 – he finished the course here with us and then set himself up repairing bicycles. Secondly, we won the British Computer Society Accessibility Achievement Award for the most accessible computer facility in the UK, based on our computer courses for all learners, but also including our specialist programmes for Deaf students and supporting outreach activities. A very good day for City Lit. Peter Davies Principal
