What is the course about?
This course is to introduce people to the basics of British Sign Language (BSL), with the possibility of progressing to established CACDP Beginners (level 1) courses. The course is specially aimed at those who want to know some BSL for communicating with Deaf colleagues or customers in the workplace.
What level is the course?
Introduction, no previous experience necessary.
What will the course cover? (contents, themes, projects)
The content of the course can vary according to the needs and work environment of the client. Typically, this may include:
- Fingerspelling
- Work vocabulary
- Health and safety
- Description of people
- Giving directions and getting around
- Food and drinks
- Numbers, time, calendar
- Signing short conversations
What can I expect to achieve?
By the end of the course you should be able to:
- Conduct a basic conversation with a deaf person using sign language
- Sign a short passage
How will I be taught?
This course will be taught through a combination of group work, demonstration, pair work and practical work.
