What is the course about?
Interested in note-taking for disabled students? On this introductory course you will find out about professional note-taking skills. You will receive information about our nationally recognised Open College Network (OCN) qualification, which qualifies trainees to support disabled students in education and employment.
What level is the course?
The course is suitable for people already employed in the field of disability support (e.g. Learning Support Assistants and Communication Support Workers).
You should have at least Level One English skills, including the ability to write fluently and clearly in English, using accurate spelling, grammar and punctuation.
What will the course cover? (contents, themes, projects)
Why note takers are needed, who they notetake for and introduces some of the skills and strategies needed by note-takers, including:
- Technical note-taking skills
- Role of a note-taker
- Adapting your notes to meet different needs
- Disability Discrimination Act
- Note-taking practice
- How to take notes in different styles
- Context of note-taking in education
- Handwriting practice.
