This is a vocational course. You will work towards the City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care. Your learning and development will be improved if you have access to a relevant work setting. This can be in a voluntary or paid position.
You should be able to read and summarise information from different sources and write two or three paragraphs confidently. You should be able to follow verbal or written instructions and communicate clearly in writing. You will be expected to take part in group discussions, make significant contributions and help to move discussions forward. You should be able to plan, draft and organise your own work.
The classroom sessions are tutor led and combine groupwork, discussion, case studies, self-directed study, presentations, role-play, quizzes, DVD resources and research activities. You will be required to work on assignments in your own time.

Yes. Before you can enrol on this course, you need to have an advisory interview with the relevant department. Without this the enrolment team will be unable to process your enrolment. Please contact the department to arrange your interview, or to find out about drop-in sessions.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. Guided assignments require that you reflect and provide concrete examples from your work placement experience. Written feedback for each assignment is provided.
Your tutor will regularly assess and monitor your work, taking into account class work and homework where appropriate and record your progress.
One-to-one tutorials ensure regular contact with your tutor and informal, regular feedback will be provided throughout the course.
At the end of your study programme you will have the opportunity to self-assess your progress and achievement against the course objectives.

At the end of this award you can apply for the NVQ level 2 Health and Social Care course. To do this you must either be in appropriate paid employment or voluntary work. You might also consider a specialist qualification in substance misuse, mental health, housing etc.
