An introduction to working in the care and support sector. Find out about work and learning opportunities and how your skills match these. Create a personal portfolio that will assist your career development.
Career planning including; job search, skills assessment, CV building, applications and interviews
Preparation for the workplace including; health and safety law, professional conduct, effective communication and your rights and responsibilities as an employee.
Identify your strengths and future goals; research opportunities for work and learning; plan your next step to get the job you want; identify safe and effective working practices; complete a competitive application and perform confidently in an interview.
This is an introductory course. You will work towards the City & Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Employability and Personal Development (7546)
You should already be able to follow verbal and written instructions, express ideas clearly in writing, through writing lists and short pieces of text, and pick out essential information from a variety of texts (including websites and handouts). You should be prepared to discuss ideas in small groups and deliver a short presentation.
You will be taught in a group using discussion, presentation, individual tutorial, computer search, role-play, quizzes and DVD resources. You will undertake a small research project in your own time.
All materials are supplied for the course. You should bring a folder for your work and a pen.
Yes. Before you can enrol on this course, you need to have an advisory interview with the relevant department. Without this the enrolment team will be unable to process your enrolment. Please contact the department to arrange your interview, or to find out about drop-in sessions.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. Your portfolio will be formally assessed by your tutor, taking into account classwork and homework where appropriate.
Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
