Course outline

What is the course about?

Explore the functions and applications of supervision. Identify how to maximise your use of supervision for the benefit of the staff you support.

What topics will we cover?

The different roles involved in supervision
What supervision is and what it is not
Common mistakes and problem solving
Strategies to improve the supervision you provide.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Describe what supervision is, the key tasks and their importance
Identify where problems in supervison can occur, how to avoid these or overcome them
Develop strategies to deal with difficulties in the supervision process
Choose from a range of approaches to meet the individual needs of your supervisees.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is non-accredited. You should be able to follow verbal and written instructions. You will be expected to take part in group discussions, make significant contributions and help to move discussions forward. You will have to demonstrate that you are able to use the techniques in a classroom environment.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will be expected to participate in group discussion, small groupwork and role play.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

All materials are supplied for this course.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
