Course outline

What is the course about?

The course provides an introduction to iLlife applications iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie and iDVD as well as web design using iWeb. Through simple, step-by-step instructions, this course enables you to build on your existing knowledge of the Apple Mac operating system and how to use it.

What topics will we cover?

A review of fundamental aspects of using a computer such as the Desktop, Menu bar, Dock, Icons, Files, Folders and basic tasks such as copying, pasting and saving.
Introduction to key computer concepts and terminology
Components of the computer and how they function together.
Settings and customising the computer.
Working with removable media, disks and drives.
Different applications and common functions.
Introduction to the iLife applications iWeb, iPhoto, iTunes, iMovie, iDVD and Garage band.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Personalise and customise your computer.
Create a website using iWeb.
Import and organise digital photos from a camera and create albums and slide shows with iPhoto.
Import and organise sound and create playlists and CDs with iTunes.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

You should have completed the Introduction to Apple Mac OSX: stage 1, or be an existing Apple Mac user who would like to broaden their understanding of the Apple Mac system and the iLife suite of applications. You should be able to follow spoken instructions, read written instructions and information, and discuss work with your tutor.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Each student has their own computer. Presentations will be made using computers, interactive whiteboard, overhead screen and printed notes. Step by step instruction, with demonstrations where appropriate, will help you grasp the concepts.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
