Course outline

What is the course about?

This course is for anyone who can already use a PC but has not used an Apple Mac computer before. On this short introductory course you will gain experience of the Mac environment, the desktop and the operating system.

What topics will we cover?

Anatomy of a Mac
Apple Mac desktop
Apple Mac OSX operating system
Using software on a Mac
Creating, saving and finding files
Using the Dock.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Understand the components of a Mac desktop
Login and logout
Name the features of the Apple Mac desktop
Navigate the system confidently
Open applications and create, save and find files
Use the docking system
Use system preferences.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

You should already be able to use a PC.
You should be able to follow spoken instructions and read written information.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Each student has their own computer. Presentations will be made using computers, interactive whiteboard, overhead screen and printed notes. Step by step instruction, with demonstrations where appropriate, will help you grasp the concepts.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
