Through simple, step-by-step instructions, this course offers you the chance to get to know and feel confident in the use of computers.
Basic theory of how computers work.
The keyboard and all the special keys.
The operating system and the Windows environment.
Word processing (composing a letter and saving a file).
Using the Paint program to create a simple picture.
Introduction to File Management.
Introduction to the Internet.
Understand basic computer technology.
Locate programs using the Start button and the Windows system of menus and submenus.
Create, format and save a short letter.
Use Paint basic tools to create a simple image that incorporates colour, line and shape.
Surf the web.
Carry out searches using the Google search engine.
This course is for complete beginners - no previous experience or knowledge is necessary. You should be able to follow spoken instructions, read written instructions and information, and discuss work with your tutor.
Each student has their own computer.
Presentations will be made using computers, interactive whiteboard, overhead screen and printed notes.
Step by step instruction, with demonstrations where appropriate, will help you grasp the concepts.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
