This unique qualification for power users covers word processing software, spreadsheet software, presentation software and database software, as well as a unit on improving productivity using IT. You will gain the BCS level 3 ITQ certificate in IT user skills (ECDL advanced), an ECDL expert certificate and entitlement to Associate Membership of the British Computer Society at a reduced rate. WORD:
Apply advanced text, paragraph, column and table formatting.
Work with referencing features and create tables of contents etc.
Enhance productivity by using fields, forms and templates.
Apply advanced mail merge techniques and macros.
Work with master documents and subdocuments.
Work with watermarks, sections and headers and footers.
MICROSOFT EXCEL:
Use functions such as those associated with logical, statistical, financial and mathematical operations.
Create charts and apply advanced chart formatting features.
Work with tables and lists to analyse, filter and sort data.
Create and use scenarios and pivot tables.
Validate and audit spreadsheet data.
Enhance productivity by working with named cell ranges, macros and templates.
Apply spreadsheet security features.
MICROSOFT ACCESS:
Understand key concepts in database development and usage.
Create a relational database using advanced table creation features and complex relationships between tables.
Design and refine queries using wildcards, parameters and calculations.
Use controls and sub forms to enhance forms and improve functionality.
Create report controls to perform calculations.
Enhance productivity by working with macros.
MICROSOFT POWERPOINT:
Understand target audience and venue considerations in presentation planning.
Create and modify templates and format slide backgrounds.
Enhance a presentation using built-in drawing and image tools.
Apply advanced chart formatting features and create and edit diagrams.
Insert movies and sound and apply built-in animation features.
Work with custom slide shows, apply slide show setting, and control a slide show.
IMPROVING PRODUCTIVITY USING IT
This module will give you the ability to plan, evaluate and improve procedures involving the use of IT tools and systems in order to improve the productivity and efficiency of work activities.
This is an advanced course at Level 3. All students are expected to have a passed the ECDL level 2 course or have relevant experience.
Each student has their own computer.
Presentations will be made using computers, interactive whiteboard, overhead screen and printed notes.
Step by step instruction, with demonstrations where appropriate, will help you grasp the concepts.
Yes. Before you can enrol on this course, you need to have an advisory interview with the relevant department. Without this the enrolment team will be unable to process your enrolment. Please contact the department to arrange your interview, or to find out about drop-in sessions.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
