ECDL extra is designed to assess the core software applications required in the workplace. It is made up of four modules: word processing software; spreadsheet software; presentation software; and improving productivity using IT. If you pass, you will receive the BCS level 2 ITQ certificate in IT user skills (ECDL extra).

ECDL Extra is a full level 2 qualification that builds on the knowledge acquired on the level 1: essentials course. You will explore in detail the core software applications required in the workplace.
ECDL level 2: extra is made up of 4 modules:
Word processing software
Spreadsheet software
Presentation software
Improving productivity using IT.
Word Processing
Use a word processing application such as Word to create documents
Manipulate and format text
Insert and manipulate images within a document
Import objects and graphics
Use mail merge tools
Create, manipulate and format tables
Preview and print documents
Spreadsheets
Understand the basic concepts of spreadsheets
Use a spreadsheet application such as Excel to create a spreadsheet
Insert and format data
Create, format and adjust charts
Create formulae and functions and copy them to other cells
Apply settings for printing
Presentations
Create, format, modify and prepare presentations using different slide layouts using PowerPoint
Duplicate and move text, images, charts
Create and modify organisational charts
Apply slide transitions and animation effects
Apply slide designs using presets and templates
Apply various print options
Improving productivity using IT
This module will give you the ability to plan, evaluate and improve procedures involving the use of IT tools and systems in order to improve the productivity and efficiency of work activities.
On successfully completing the required modules you can be awarded an ECDL extra certificate and a full Level 2 ITQ certificate.
You should have achieved an ECDL Level 1 either at City Lit or elsewhere. If you completed ECDL Level 1 at another training provider, you should bring proof of successful completion of level 1 to your interview.
Each student has their own computer.
Presentations will be made using computers, interactive whiteboard, overhead screen and printed notes.
Step by step instruction, with demonstrations where appropriate, will help you grasp the concepts.
The non-refundable Examination Fee is included in the fee.
You may wish to purchase a course book. The tutor will give suggestions about these.

Yes. Before you can enrol on this course, you need to have an advisory interview with the relevant department. Without this the enrolment team will be unable to process your enrolment. Please contact the department to arrange your interview, or to find out about drop-in sessions.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
