Course outline

What is the course about?

Exciting techniques are now available to graphic designers using Illustrator CS. This course will provide a basic introduction to drawing and design with the software, and you will gain experience through practical exercises.

What topics will we cover?

Introduction to the Illustrator environment.
Paths, stroke and fill.
Blends and gradients.
Introduction to Bezier pen tools.
Creating brush patterns.
Manipulating text and text on a curve.
Effects with text.
Using the transformation tools.
Saving work.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Draw and design using Illustrator CS.
Create, edit and manipulate your own work.
Use the pen tool to create and manipulate curves.
Create brush patterns.
Use the transformation tools.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

No previous knowledge of Illustrator is required but you will need some experience using the Apple Mac. You should also be able to follow spoken instructions, read written instructions and information, and discuss work with your tutor.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Each student has their own computer.
Presentations will be made using computers, whiteboard, overhead screen and printed notes.
Step by step instruction, with demonstrations where appropriate, will help you grasp the concepts.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
