This introductory course will explore methods and techniques for successfully producing animations, using images and text. It will cover technical issues such as vector and raster images, file formats, aspect ratios, title safe area and codecs. Students will be encouraged to work on their own projects using assets created in Photoshop, as well as using quicktime movies.
Introduction to the main features of Photoshop.
Introduction to vector and raster image.
Introduction to the After Effects environment.
Importing images and video files into After Effects.
Creating animations in After Effects using key frames and transformation properties.
Creating simple masks.
Create and manage animated projects using After Effects .
Use the basic functions of After Effects.
Use Photoshop to prepare graphics elements for use in After Effects.
Create simple animations in After Effects.
Apply masks to images in After Effects.
Create and animate text.
Learn the basics of using key frames in After Effects.
Transfer assets between Photoshop and After effects.
Export your animations using appropriate codecs.
No previous knowledge is required, but you will need experience using an Apple Mac. You should also be able to follow spoken instructions, read written instructions and information, and discuss work with your tutor.
Each student has their own computer. Presentations will be made using computers, whiteboard, overhead screen and printed notes. Step by step instruction, with demonstrations where appropriate, will help you grasp the concepts.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
