How to start researching your family history and how to use the internet to build on your initial findings.
How to trace your ancestors using the net.
What free information is available for you to access.
What information is worth paying for and which sites may be worth subscribing to.
Start, or extend, your family history.
Develop a knowledge of basic genealogical sources and research techniques.
Use a variety of web-sites to research family history on the internet.
Understand the sort of information on family history likely to be available online.
Appreciate the excitement and challenges of using the internet to research family history.
Have an understanding of the options available in terms of which sites to use and what sites and types of information may be worth paying for.
Identify the various options open to you for further research using the net.
You should be familiar with using a computer keyboard and mouse. Some familiarity with searching the net would be useful, but is not essential.
You will be shown demonstrations and presentations and encouraged to use computers to search for information. Discussion and an exchange of ideas will be encouraged.
You will be encouraged to make use of the internet outside classes. Though this is not compulsory, it will give you additional information and useful experience.
There are no additional costs during classes, but you may want to buy certificates, pay for copies of documents at libraries and subscribe to a specialised genealogy web-site. You should bring writing materials and be prepared to bring research items.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
