The course will provide an introduction to social networking. Basic skills will be covered, working towards a greater understanding of the key social media tools.
An overview of social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc)
Outline social networking concepts.
Explore key social media tools and networks.
Setting up and managing your own personal account.
Keeping in touch with friends and family.
Reconnecting with old acquaintances.
Staying safe while online.
Protecting your privacy and reputation.
Explain the core features of the major social media networks.
Identify opportunities and uses that social media offers.
Create a profile on a social networking website.
Use social media to expand your personal network.
Communicate with friends and family.
Demonstrate social etiquette and good practice.
Identify the possible risks associated with social networking.
Socialise safely and protect your privacy.
Access available Help and support features.
No prior knowledge of social networking is required, but you should have basic computing and internet skills. You should be able to follow spoken instructions, read written instructions and information, and discuss work with your tutor in English.
Each student has their own computer.
The course consists of practical activities, discussions and demonstrations. One to one guidance and support will be given throughout.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
