Course outline

What is the course about?

This introductory course will enable you to set up an eBay account and begin to buy and sell online at the world’s largest online marketplace.

What topics will we cover?

A brief introduction to the beginnings of eBay.
Setting up an account with eBay, creating a user name and password.
Making a realtime bid for an eBay item and finding out about methods of paying for items.
Advertising an item for sale.
Looking at the potential pitfalls and hazards of making online transactions.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Set up an eBay account.
Make a bid for an item on eBay.
Advertise an item for sale on eBay.
Buy and sell items safely on eBay.
Identify correct protocol when buying and selling on eBay.
Conduct your own e-transactions.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

You must have used a computer before and are expected to have a basic working knowledge of the internet.
Familiarity with email is essential.
You should be able to follow spoken instructions, read written instructions and information, and discuss work with your tutor.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Each student has their own computer.
Presentations will be made using computers, interactive whiteboard, overhead screen and printed notes.
Step by step instruction, with demonstrations where appropriate, will help you grasp the concepts.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

You must be able to send and receive emails during the class. You may set up a temporary free email account for this purpose if you wish, e.g. Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
