What is the course about?

The course builds on the Access Beginners course. You will be introduced to some of the more advanced features and explore macros for automating tasks. You will be given prepared files for use and will not be required to enter large amounts of data.

What topics will we cover?

Relationships
Advanced tables
Multi-table, parameter and action queries
Advanced form design
Sub-forms
Advanced reports
Macros
Switchboards.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Understand the need for data analysis as a prelude to setting up a database.
Understand more fully the role of forms and develop additional form functionality.
Understand the need for data validation to ensure accurate data capture, and make use of it.
Formulate complex queries to extract and manipulate data.
Produce reports which group and sort data, transforming data into information.
Use macros to automate functions and processes.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

You should have completed the Access for Beginners course or have equivalent knowledge. If you have not done the Access beginners course, please check the course outline to see that you are familiar with what was covered.

You should also be able to follow spoken and written instructions and be comfortable carrying out mathematical calculations.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Each student has their own computer.
Presentations will be made using computers, interactive whiteboard, overhead screen and printed notes.
Step by step instruction, with demonstrations where appropriate, will help you grasp the concepts.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.

How do I find out if I can get some support for my learning?

You may be interested in: education and careers advice; financial and childcare support; disability support; support for Deaf and hearing-impaired students; dyslexia support; English and maths support; counselling, and library services (supported learning centre).
