You will develop skills in Word 2007, a powerful and easy to use word processing application.
Introduction to Word program, environment and word processing concepts.
Creating, saving and opening documents.
Editing text - using basic editing methods (insert, delete, over-type text, split paragraphs, join paragraphs and undo command).
Formatting Text (underlining, bold, italics, aligning, indent, margins).
Moving and copying blocks of text (in document and between documents).
Formatting text (changing font, style, font size, font colour).
Aligning and indenting text - creating various types of paragraphs
Advanced editing (search and replace, spell check, thesaurus and word count).
Inserting page number, headers and footers, automatic date, manual page break.
Inserting and re-sizing an image.
Creatingsimple tables.
Changing margins, the size and orientation of a document.
Previewing and printing a document.
Create short documents (letters, memos, articles and leaflets).
Save a document to hard disk and other removable storage devices (floppy, or USB stick).
Make changes to an existing document using a variety of editing techniques.
Apply text formatting to a document.
Change the appearance of a document by applying various paragraph formats and effects.
Use Word find and replace facility.
Create a table, enter text in a table and change its appearance through formatting.
Insert images.
Preview a document, apply and remove formatting that affects entire pages (margins, page break, header and footers, size, orientation, page numbers).
Print a document.
Although this is a course for beginners to Word, you should be able to use a keyboard and mouse and be familiar with the Windows working environment. You should also be able to follow spoken instructions, read written instructions and information, and discuss work with your tutor.
Each student has their own computer.
Presentations will be made using computers, interactive whiteboard, overhead screen and printed notes.
Step by step instruction, with demonstrations where appropriate, will help you grasp the concepts.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
