This course is about making your computer work for you. You will look at what is inside the computer, how it works, how to troubleshoot common problems and upgrade simple features.
Computer jargon and terminology
The parts of the computer and their function
Health and safety when working with computers
Installing and configuring an operating system and drivers
Troubleshooting common computer problems
Computer maintenance and optimisation
Installing and configuring part of a computer.
Identify the parts that make a computer.
Upgrade parts of your computer.
Install an operating system, drivers and antivirus software.
Have a better understanding of hardware and software terminology.
Assess, troubleshoot and fix basic hardware issues.
This course is for complete beginners - no previous experience or knowledge is necessary.
You should be able to follow spoken and written instructions. You will also be expected to take part in the practical elements of this course.
Students will work mainly in groups.
Presentations will be made using computers, interactive whiteboard, overhead screen and printed notes.
Step by step instruction, with demonstrations where appropriate, will help you grasp the concepts.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
