Course outline

What is the course about?

This course is about making your computer work for you. Learn how to solve common computer problems and upgrade simple features thus saving you time and money.

What topics will we cover?

Understanding the basic features of computer.
Solving common problems such as the computer freezing, printer not working, monitor not working properly, failure to access internet and e-mail, etc.
How to upgrade memory.
Downloading and installing software.
Understanding viruses and removing them.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Have a better understanding of how computer works.
Assess, troubleshoot and fix basic problems.
Maintain your computer.
Get troubleshooting information from the Internet.
Install and uninstall software.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is for complete beginners - no previous experience or knowledge is necessary. You should be able to follow spoken instructions, read written instructions and information, and discuss work with your tutor.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will work in groups.
Presentations will be made using computers, interactive whiteboard, overhead screen and printed notes.
Step by step instructions, with demonstrations where appropriate, will help you grasp the concepts.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
