Course outline

What is the course about?

This course will give you an introduction to the basic concepts and practical skills necessary to start building your own simple 4 to 5 pages Flash web site combining text, images and interactive elements.

What topics will we cover?

The focus of this introductory course is on using Flash for the creation of visually attractive vector and animation-based simple websites. We will look at creating artwork in Flash as well as importing artwork and images into Flash. We also work with text, creating simple navigation systems, and adding basic interactivity.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Use the basic drawing and animation functions of Flash.
Create buttons and simple navigation in Flash.
Use Photoshop to prepare graphical elements for Flash projects.
Transfer assets between Flash and Photoshop.
Plan and organize your Falsh web site.
Combine buttons, text, vector graphics and simple animations into a basic Flash website.
Publish Flash into a web page.
Upload your Flash website to the web using Dreamweaver.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

No previous knowledge of Flash is required but you will need experience using an Apple Mac. It would also be useful, but not essential, for you to have some experience of basic webpage design. You should also be able to follow spoken instructions, read written instructions and information, and discuss work with your tutor.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Each student has their own computer. Presentations will be made using computers, whiteboard, overhead screen,
There will be use of printed notes and the Virtual Learning Environment. Step by step instruction, with demonstrations where appropriate, will help you grasp the concepts.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

No.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.

How do I find out if I can get some support for my learning?

You may be interested in: education and careers advice; financial and childcare support; disability support; support for Deaf and hearing-impaired students; dyslexia support; English and maths support; counselling, and library services (supported learning centre).
