This course will introduce you to the HTML formatting language used to write web pages and how this is applied in writing simple pages and designing basic web sites.
Introduction to HTML and review of the World Wide Web
Structure of Uniform Resource Locators
Concept behind HTML
Basic formatting tags
Hypertext links
Graphics
Tables
Imagemaps
Frames
Meta tags and search engines.
Understand the concept behind HTML and the reason for its use.
Understand the structure of URLs and be able to manipulate them.
Design and write simple web pages incorporating text, images and tables.
Understand and use named points and relative addresses in hypertext links.
Plan and structure a web site in which a number of pages are linked together.
The course is aimed at beginners with HTML. You will need to have knowledge or experience of:
Using the World Wide Web (www).
Using a simple word processor or text editor
Basic file management.
You should also be able to follow spoken and written instructions and add, subtract, multiply and divide.
Each student has their own computer.
Presentations will be made using computers, whiteboard, overhead screen and printed notes.
Step by step instruction, with demonstrations where appropriate, will help you grasp the concepts.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
