This course will familiarise you with the main operating features of Windows XP, the desktop, application windows and display settings. It will give you the ability to manage files and organise folders.
Features of the computer desktop
Using icons and toolbars
Windows - component parts, opening, resizing, closing, arranging
Working with files in Windows Explorer
File structures
Using the operating system's Help function
Searching for files.
Identify the various components of a computer desktop
Recognise the most commonly used icons and toolbars
Arrange desktop icons

Though this course is aimed at beginners, you are expected to have knowledge of the keyboard, mouse and basic word processing experience. You should be able to follow spoken instructions, read written instructions and information, and discuss work with your tutor.
Each student has their own computer.
Presentations will be made using computers, interactive whiteboard, overhead screen and printed notes.
Step by step instruction, with demonstrations where appropriate, will help you grasp the concepts.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
