As a CSW (communication support worker) or interpreter you are no doubt anxious about the high risk you have of developing Upper Limb Disorder (ULD) - which many signers refer to as RSI. This training day will help you to recognise many of the early signs of ULD and simple preventive and corrective measures that you can take.
How the way you sign and what you sign can make a difference.
Preventative strategies and simple changes that you can make when interpreting which will help you to reduce risks.
Identifying early signs of RSI and the importance of taking early action.
Practice warm-up techniques.
Make simple adjustments within your support work which will reduce your risk of developing ULD and enable you to identify risk factors early on so that you can take the necessary actions.
This course is ideal if you are a CSW or interpreter. Your level of signing is not important but to benefit fully from the day you will need to be able to participate in class and group discussions given in English. You may choose to take brief notes, although full handouts will be given.
Teaching methods used should include: class discussion, presentations, small groupwork activities, demonstrations, etc.
There are no other costs. You may find it helpful to bring pen and paper to make notes, although full handouts will be provided.
No.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
