What is the course about?

This course will help you to organise a session for relatives or friends of your lipreading students to give them some insight into the experience of hearing loss, and to give them some helpful tips to make them more deaf aware.

What topics will we cover?

- The practicalities of organising the session
- Explaining the psychology of hearing loss / what it is like to be deaf
- Material and activities.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

- Plan and organise a session for friends or relatives
- Present useful background information about hearing loss and the variety of experience
- Select and develop effective materials and activities for use in the session.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Tutor demonstration and explanation, discussion, shared experience and practice.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

No.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?
