The course more than came up to my expectations. The tutors are very helpful and supportive and the group I was with were as well. The group work was really helpful and helped the learning process. I would thoroughly recommend this course, and City Lit.

I loved this course, which was more than an interesting vocational training. It was about the art of summarizing and this skill will be transferable to other study and job settings as well.

I found this a most enjoyable course and a very intense learning experience: it has been stimulating mentally and quite demanding as it has turned into a kind of voyage of self-discovery. I felt I benefited greatly from it and was very impressed at how well organised the learning scheme was - it will be a real help in achieving results. The course was exciting and fun and the tutors very encouraging and supportive: always thoroughly appreciative of our efforts and keen to build up our confidence. The atmosphere was relaxed but conducive to challenging discussion and we received a no nonsense realistic idea of the realities of working in this field. But for the lack of air-conditioning and rather inefficient window blinds I really cannot recommend the course highly enough!

What an excellent presented course. Every day was well structured with lesson plans given to all students. The tutors were professional in their teaching whilst also being very approachable and patient. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

The course was intensive, held over five consecutive days, and there is homework to be done over the next three months including an essay and evidence of further note taking. However, this gives credence to the professional standard of the course.

The handbook and course materials were clearly presented and referenced to the relevant learning outcomes. Students were exposed to a wide range of note taking experiences, including talks by visiting speakers that were designed to increase our awareness of a wide range of disabilities.

The tutors were excellent, well prepared, flexible and happy to encourage students to participate by speaking about their own areas of expertise. As a result I learnt as much from fellow students as I did from the tutors and course materials, which is a compliment, not a criticism.

As a result of carrying about the weight of paper handouts that were distrubuted my upper arms are now better toned. I would suggest that most of these could be put onto a course website, or a CD, so that students can either read them on a screen, or print them off if they choose to. It would make their course file much lighter and save a few trees!

I’ve just completed City Lit’s 5-day Manual Note-taking course and want to say how much I enjoyed it – the tutors covered a huge amount of information and practical work while keeping the class informal, friendly and fun. The wide range of experience in the room meant lots of real-life case-scenarios and I’ve left with improved skills and knowledge and more confident and informed about further opportunities. There’s a lot of homework to do now but at the end I will have a valued qualification that will enhance my job and pay opportunities.
