Course outline

What is the course about?

This course will help you to develop teaching materials and approaches which will support cochlear implant wearers in your lipreading classes.

What topics will we cover?

- The rehabilitation programme for cochlear implant users
- Expectations of cochlear implant users
- Practice exercises
- Adapting exercises for use in the lipreading class.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

- Describe the rehabilitation process for cochlear implant users
- Recognise the experience and expectations of cochlear implant users
- Identify types of practice that develop skills when using a cochlear implant
- Modify material and approaches to incorporate useful practice within the lipreading class.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is intended for qualified lipreading teachers, or students in training.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Tutor demonstration and explanation, discussion, shared experience and practice.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

No.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?
