Course outline

What is the course about?

This course is a workshop on developing and expanding ideas for lipreading teaching material. The main focus will be on creating student centred practice.

What topics will we cover?

• Using icebreakers
• Developing exercises for pair and small group work
• Using visual material, including video
• Developing exercises to stimulate residual hearing and give practice against background noise.
• Useful websites.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

• Identify suitable material for icebreakers
• Create material which gives students practice in lipreading each other
• Use sound to stimulate residual hearing and give practice in managing against background noise
• Identify and access useful websites.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course is intended for qualified lipreading teachers, or teachers in training.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Tutor demonstration and explanation, discussion, shared experience and practice.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
