An exploration of Stanislavski's acting technique - extending and challenging existing approaches.
Refreshing basic exercises and proceeding to more advanced techniques, you will explore sense memory; objectives, actions and activities; emotional memory; characterisation; animal exercises; song exercises and in-depth scenework.
• use the principle of the Stanislavski technique to develop a character
• apply Stanislavski's system to a play/film text in order to analyse it
• build character through-lines
• extend your own expressiveness
• choose appropriate examples from your own life experience to support character experience
• recognise and make a 'physical transformation'.
Acting experience essential.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Listen actively and communicate clearly.
• Give and receive constructive feedback.
• Read and analyse scripts to find meaning and clarity.
• Take notes.
• Use numbers to recognise rhythm.
All work will be practical with some preparation. Students will work alone, in pairs and in groups, according to the exercise.

Yes. Before you can enrol on this course, you need to have an advisory interview with the relevant department. Without this the enrolment team will be unable to process your enrolment. Please contact the department to arrange your interview, or to find out about drop-in sessions.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. Continual feedback through the sessions, and observations.
