Course outline

What is the course about?

An opportunity to work in depth on acting exercises and text.

What topics will we cover?

Increased vocal, physical and mental flexibility.
The concept of Endowment, Object and basic Memory exercises,as described in 'Respect for Acting' by Uta Hagan.
Working in pairs on text.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Understand and perform an Endowment.
Understand and recreate 'two minutes of your day' (Object exercise).
Understand and perform a Memory exercise.
Demonstrate a broader, braver approach to acting challenges.
Perform collaboratively within an ensemble.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Aimed at students who are considering entering the profession. You must have completed some previous acting training.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Listen and respond to instructions and feedback.
• Communicate clearly in discussion and drama practice.
• Read and respond to a variety of text.
• Give and receive constructive feedback.
• Take notes.
• Work within groups and pairs safely.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Exercises in groups and pairs, improvisations and text work. You will need to prepare acting exercises at home.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

You will be encouraged to purchase Respect for Acting by Uta Hagen.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. There will be observation of performance, oral self-assessment and supportive group assessment.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
