1st term (Jan - Apr)
To prepare for term 2 by learning the skills involved in performing an improvised play.
2nd term (Apr - Jul):
To be able to perform a live improvised piece of drama for an audience.
Both terms:
Working on previous knowledge and adding the Meisner Technique and basic play formats. Creating good team understanding. Failing and working out rules from the mistakes. Making the improvisation emotional.
1st term:
Know what is expected in order to improvise a piece of serious drama for performance.
Have some experience of doing this.
2nd term:
Perform a piece of dramatic improvisation (in play format) for an audience.
1st term:
Preferably you should have done 'Performance Improvisation: Sketches' or equivalent higher standard class. You should know Keith Johnson's work on IMPRO. Sensitivity expected.
2nd term:
Performance Impro: the play - 1st term. This is a continuing class. Bravery, sensitivity and commitment expected.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Listen and respond to instructions and feedback.
• Communicate clearly in discussion and drama practice.
• Read and respond to a variety of text.
• Give and receive constructive feedback.
• Take notes.
• Work within groups and pairs safely.
Pair work and group work, demonstrations. All practical work.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. Term 1:
Ongoing feedback, self assessment, group response.
Term 2:
As above, plus audience response.
