Acting is living truthfully moment to moment under imaginary circumstances. We will explore defining acting in terms of reality and not pretence; putting our attention on each other and not on ourselves; giving a higher value to impulsiveness than to intellect.
We will explore the concept of starting with who you are, not who you think you should be, and will use Sanford Meisner's core exercises: the Repetition Game, Independent Activities and Emotional Preparation.
Work less self consciously.
Respond more honestly.
Feel less emotionally and physically inhibited.
Some previous training is required as well as an openess to testing personal boundaries and preconceptions.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Listen actively and communicate clearly.
• Give and receive constructive feedback.
• Take notes.
Practical class work, group exercises, scene study and some homework.
Comfortable working clothes. Some props but nothing costly.
Yes. Before you can enrol on this course, you need to have an advisory interview with the relevant department. Without this the enrolment team will be unable to process your enrolment. Please contact the department to arrange your interview, or to find out about drop-in sessions.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. Greater vulnerability. Released spontaneity in reactions and choices. Confidence in bringing your unique qualities to the work. Empowered rather than anxious at audition and rehearsal. Surprised by your freedom.
Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
