Course outline

What is the course about?

Identifying the role of text in a Meisner-based approach to acting. Not "how do I say the lines?" but "what are the possibilities?".

What topics will we cover?

Text analysis leading to essential actions; learning the lines without cliché; finding the right preparations; developing from the Intermediate Meisner course.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Deliver the text whilst living truthfully in the moment.
Adjust your preparation according to the scene's demands.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

You need to be of an advanced, professional level and have advanced experience of the core exercises listed above.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Listen actively and communicate clearly.
• Give and receive constructive feedback.
• Read and analyse scripts to find meaning and clarity.
• Take notes.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Working in pairs or small groups throughout the term in exercises and scenes. Constant evaluation and feedback. Practical exercises and some homework.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
