To examine various aspects of impro, discover how to develop comedy characters, raising the stakes and comedic structure, one particularly useful skill we will develop is how to make others appear funny.
All basic impro’ components will be covered, ranging from short, quick fire scenes to extended narratives. Specific areas covered will include improvising at auditions and using impro’ as a writing tool.
Understand the mechanics of beginning a scene, making it interesting and finding an ending.
Be confident enough to create an extremely funny scene from nothing.
Perform impro scenes with absolutely no fear.
Be able to set up your own impro troop.
Suitable for people who have some impro’ or acting experience.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Listen actively and communicate clearly.
• Give and receive constructive feedback.
• Read and analyse scripts to find meaning and clarity.
• Take notes.
• Use numbers to recognise rhythm.
Group work and continuous performance.
Though by no means essential, participants may benefit from going to see a comedy impro’ show, such as ‘The Comedy Store Players’ or ‘Sprout’.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

Having a background in impro’ would give any student a massive head start in the stand-up comedy. Advice will also be given on setting up an impro troop.
