This course will focus on English pronunciation, but also expands your listening skills, vocabulary and command of colloquial English to build greater confidence when acting in your second language.
As this course is tailored for actors, the pronunciation practice material we cover will focus on the English you will need in order to understand key technical terms, follow directions and talk about the acting process.
Perceive and produce the simple vowel and consonant sounds of spoken English.
Understand and respond appropriately to a range of verbal instructions you are likely to be given in a rehearsal room.
Understand formal and colloquial keywords and phrases which may be contained within your tutors’ written and verbal feedback.
Students should be able to demonstrate a ready understanding of spoken English, and be able to communicate
competently in English.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
- speak English fluently
- communicate in group situations
- give and receive constructive feedback
- read and respond to a range of texts
- take course notes for your own use.
You will be taught in groups and have the opportunity to work on specific exercises in pairs, small groups, and individually.
You may find it useful to bring the following material to class: a small portable recording device, coloured highlighter pens, dictionary, hand mirror.
Yes. Before you can enrol on this course, you need to have an advisory interview with the relevant department. Without this the enrolment team will be unable to process your enrolment. Please contact the department to arrange your interview, or to find out about drop-in sessions.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
