To develop the speaking and listening skills you need to influence a meeting in a clear, confident and well-organised way, leading to effective decision making.

Motivating participants by choosing an appropriate approach to the meeting.
Responding to questions.
Handling objections.
Dealing with problem participants and hostile behaviour.
Enhancing your impact by developing personal credibility and conviction.
Influence a meeting by defining the drives, goals and agendas of those involved.
Identify your personal style of working with people.
Adopt an appropriate approach to handling objections productively.
Present evidence in an appropriate way.
Use voice and body language to maximise impact.
Choose appropriate modes of behaviour to enhance performance.
Deal constructively with problem participants.
Arrange space to facilitate controlled and even-handed discussions.
Respond to questions calmly and effectively.
React positively to a hostile audience, thereby enhancing your credibility.
Students whose first language is not English need to be fully competent in speaking and listening, reading and writing .
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:

• Read and respond to a range of texts.
• Take course notes for your own use.
The course will comprise talks, discussion, role play and observation, with opportunity for group feedback and evaluation. You will be working in pairs and small groups.

Yes. Before you can enrol on this course, you need to have an advisory interview with the relevant department. Without this the enrolment team will be unable to process your enrolment. Please contact the department to arrange your interview, or to find out about drop-in sessions.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
