To gain credibility and attention by projecting yourself effectively and with assurance. To develop your skills in the preparation of material, delivery of message and responding to an audience. To record yourself on video and study the playback.
Preparation:
- defining outcomes and objectives
- generating ideas
- structuring a persuasive message
- using language powerfully and effectively
Delivery:
- developing and projecting your personal style
- maintaining pace and interest
- ensuring you motivate your listeners
- speaking with and without notes
Responding to an audience:
- establishing rapport
- answering questions
- coping with awkward reactions
Managing tension:
- practising relaxation and breathing techniques.
Establish and maintain a sense of controlled ease in self-presentation.
Have the confidence to achieve a positive response.
Organise and put across ideas clearly and with assurance.
Employ techniques for relaxation, breathing and improved vocal delivery.
Students whose first language is not English will need to be fully competent in speaking and listening in English.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Speak English fluently.
• Read and respond to a variety of text.
• Give and receive constructive feedback.
• Take notes.
The course will comprise of talks, discussion, exercises and presentations, with opportunity for group feedback and evaluation. There will be practical skill building work. Students will make presentations with video playback.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
