Through solos, duets and ensemble work, this class will explore song styles essential to the working life of an actor. Each week will focus on a different genre, with practical advice in a relaxed environment.
Genres covered will be: comedy; ballad; song and dance; cabaret; and ensemble. Within these broad headings, the context in which you might find these songs will also be discussed, from West End musical to Shakespeare, Greek chorus and pantomime.

Have a wider range of techniques at your disposal
Show improved performance skills.
The class is open to all levels but you should be able to learn a tune and words either from repetition or from the page.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Listen actively and communicate clearly.
• Give and receive constructive feedback.
• Read and analyse scripts to find meaning and clarity.
• Take notes.
• Use numbers to recognise rhythm.
You will be taught together in a group, with individual pieces being worked on in front of the group so that you learn from each other’s performances as well as your own. Although one of the topics is song and dance, the class will focus on the vocal techniques needed while moving around. Between classes it will be suggested you research the next week’s topic, but this will be at your own discretion.
