Course outline

What is the course about?

You will learn basic technique of classical technique, which includes; correct posture,specific placement of the body, fundamental exercises within short routines and recognising the structure of the ballet class. You will also gain greater suppleness and flexability.

What topics will we cover?

Each class will consist of barre work for three quarters of an hour and the remainder of the class in the centre. The level of exercises progress within the course. The standard French vocabulary will be used.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Demonstrate a basic grounding in classical dance.
Recognise a strengthening and suppleness of the body.
Use a wider knowledge of the vocabulary.
Identify increased mobility.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Beginners.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Follow spoken instructions
• Use numbers to recognise rhythms within dance.
• Work within groups and pairs safely.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Group work in a well equipped, modern sprung floor studio with music. It is essential to be ready to start on time.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Soft ballet shoes; either canvas or leather with elastics. Functional but comfortable dance/ballet attire should be worn. Jock straps or athletic supports should be worn by men. Students to tie their hair back if it is long for their own safety and comfort and no jewelry permitted while in class.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. Students are continually assessed by observation from the tutor and will know that they are improving by observation of themselves and each other. You will progress via correction from the tutor.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
