Belly dancing brings out the individuality of each student - each dancer finds their own way, making the dance their own and expressing their unique style. The course will emphasise posture, music, rhythms, steps and movements of the body.
Basic posture; usage of core muscle groups; hip and chest /torso/ movements (figure of eights, circles, locks, hip lifts and drops); basic Arabic rhythm patterns; and the basic steps of belly dance.
Execute some of the basic movements confidently
Have a basic idea about Arabic music and rhythm patterns
Learn to stand in a good posture.
This course is for beginners of all ages and no prior experience is needed.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Follow spoken instructions
• Use numbers to recognise rhythms within dance.
• Work within groups and pairs safely.
The teacher explains and demonstrates the movements and provides individual help with the execution of the movements. No homework is required for this course.
HEALTH CHECK
You may or may not be asked to participate in rigorous activity from time to time. Please consider whether you could do this, if you are in any doubt consult a medical practitioner.
Wear comfortable clothes you can move in easily. A loose top with tracksuit bottoms or leggings or a flowing skirt with elasticated waist is ideal and bare feet or very soft shoes such as ballet shoes but not trainers. You should also bring along a scarf to tie around your hips to help you get into the mood! Hip scarves can be purchased from the tutor.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
