Course outline

What is the course about?

This class is ideal if you have completed beginner’s classical ballet or an equivalent and are looking to progress further within a relaxed class enviroment. Each week practical sessions will develop your existing skills as well as introducing you to new vocabulary along the way.

What topics will we cover?

Class work will take the form of a traditional ballet class incorporating barre work, centre practice (port de bras, adage, pirouette and allegro) and as students and the classes progress, classical enchainement (routines).

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Demonstrate improved classical technique
Recognise increased knowledge of steps and vocabulary
Use the body correctly, identify correct technique and obtain greater ability.
Recognise a greater enjoyment of dance and freedom of movement.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is a class for those who have completed at least 2 years of our Beginner’s Classical Ballet classes, an equivalent class or perhaps did ballet as a child and wishing to return to refresh their knowledge and progress their technique.

In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Follow spoken instructions
• Use numbers to recognise rhythms within dance.
• Work within groups and pairs safely.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Teaching will include practical class work, discussion, observation and supportive feedback for individual and group awareness.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Please wear clothing that does not restrict your movement and allows you to adapt to changes in your body temperature. Tights, leotard or clothing that does not restrict movement will allow your tutor to see your work more clearly. Ballet shoes either canvas or leather with elastics. Jock straps should be worn by men. Students to tie their hair back if it is long for their own safety and comfort.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. Students are continually assessed by observation from the tutor. The tutor will give feedback on improvements and give corrections. Students will also know that they are improving by observing themselves as well as each other.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses. Jazz Technique, Musical theatre dance,.
