This dynamic and challenging experience is aimed at those with previous experience in Contemporary dance.
We will continue to explore Release based technique through a range of practical movement exercises and elaborate movement phrases. This course will develop further the awareness of the body and musicality. Floor, centre and travelling exercises will lead to efficiency of movement, expressivity and free-flowing dance sequences.
The class will consist of floor work, centre and travelling steps. Topics include co-ordination practice, strengthening, posture, exploration of jumping, flying, falling and landing and the use of levels and dynamics and how music can be used as a support or as a counterpoint to the movement. The class work will use a varied selection of music.
Perform warm-up exercises that bring your body to optimal state for dancing
Use levels & dynamics to greater effect
Show greater awareness of alignment, balance, and posture both in static and in motion
Perform a taught sequence of movement
Apply your experience to learn and engage with new material.
This course is ideal for improvers and those of an intermediate level. You need to have studied at least 2 terms in Contemporary dance before taking this course. Individual cases can be discussed with the teacher or by contacting the Drama, dance and speech department for further advice and guidance.
This is a practical course and will consist of group work in a well equipped, modern sprung floor studio. It is essential to be ready to start on time.
