This is a practical course which looks at improving your existing dance technique and vocabulary. Using a carefully conducted approach you will aim to improve and hone your existing skills and develop new ones, benefitting from greater confidence and ability. The work is made accessible through careful explanation and demonstration. Good general fitness is required.
This is a practical and dynamic class using various styles of jazz dance. Each lesson will start with a full body group warm-up, followed by corner to corner/co-ordination/technical exercises. There is a chance at the end of the lesson to dance your routine whilst the teacher watches, coaches and comments.
Demonstrate an increased understanding of the fundamentals of jazz dance.
Identify greater understanding about posture, co-ordination, position in dance and floor work.
Demonstrate performance skills and ability
Use increased development of movement with confidence.
This is a follow-on course aimed at those students with some prior experience. The work is made accessible through careful explanation and demonstration. Good general fitness is required.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Follow spoken instructions.
• Use numbers to recognise musical phrasing within dance.
• Work within groups and pairs safely.
The class is tutor led. You will be taught through explanation, demonstration, correction and copying. You will be encouraged to work in your own time to perfect the work but there is no formal requirement to do so.
Please wear clothing that does not restrict your movement and allows you to adapt to changes in your body temperature. Tights, leotard or clothing that does not restrict movement will allow your tutor to see your work more clearly. Jazz shoes/sneakers or similar, no outdoor shoes please. Jock straps should be worn by men. Students to tie their hair back if it is long for their own safety and comfort. Jewellery should be removed at the start of the class.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
