A lively follow on class for students with some prior dance experience, combining elements of jazz and contemporary dance. Predominantly movement-based with an emphasis on dynamics and performance skills, alignment, strengthening exercises, balance and expressive movement.

This dance class includes centre, barre, floor work, movement across the floor and routines. It focuses on alignment, stage presence and builds up towards greater body awareness, allowing weaknesses to be pinpointed and improved.

This is a follow on course and ideally you should have completed any beginner or introductory level dance course here at the City Lit or have prior dance experience elsewhere.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Follow spoken instructions
• Use numbers to recognise rhythms within dance.
• Work within groups and pairs safely.
Practical class work, pair work, group work. Use of images, repetition and some anatomical knowledge.
Loose clothing, jazz shoes and thick socks.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. Improved co-ordination, fluidity, posture, flexibility and ease of movement.
