Course outline

What is the course about?

An introductory course in Afro-tango (also known as Kizomba) covering all the basic steps and rhythms of this social partner dance.

What topics will we cover?

Basic steps in Kizomba, leading/ following techniques, timing and rhythm, and basic partner work.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Demonstrate greater knowledge of Kizomba dance and its strong influences.
Perform short sequences with a dance partner to Kizomba music.
Recognise and understand the Kizomba style.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The course is open to complete beginners and is aimed at those who would like to have a basic foundation of Kizomba.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Follow spoken instructions
• Use numbers to recognise rhythms within dance.
• Work within groups and pairs safely.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

By a fully UKA qualified dance teacher and experienced professional. Attendance and punctuality are essential to achieving course goals.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

No.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?
