Following a short warm up, you will be introduced to basic steps; tap step, shuffle and ball-change. Short combinations, travelling steps and/or a simple routine will be used to apply the techniques.
Demonstrate basic tap steps (tap step, shuffle, ball change).
Use improved co-ordination and opposition.
Perform a simple routine with a greater sense of enjoyment and musicality.
For beginners as well as those with some basic knowledge.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Follow spoken instructions.
• Use numbers to recognise musical phrasing within dance.
• Work within groups and pairs safely.
The class is tutor led. Students will work as a group and sometimes individually. No work is required outside of the class.
It is essential to have good shoes. Hard bottomed shoes are acceptable for this short taster course but tap shoes are recommended with tap plates using screw fittings (no rivets). Specialised stockists such as Gamba, Freed and Dancia, which have outlets in and around Covent Garden can provide appropriate footwear. Clothing should be comfortable and loose.
No.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
