Course outline

What is the course about?

An introductory course covering all the basic aspects of this social dance.

What topics will we cover?

Basic steps in salsa, leading/ following techniques, timing and rhythm, and basic partner work.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Understand more about salsa dance and its strong influences.
Perform short sequences with a dance partner to salsa music.
Understand the different dance styles.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The course is open to complete beginners and is aimed at those who would like to have a basic foundation of salsa dance.
In order to get the most from the course you will be able to:
• Follow spoken instructions
• Use numbers to recognise rhythms within dance.
• Work within groups and pairs safely.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

By a fully UKA qualified Salsa teacher and twice UK Salsa champion. Attendance and punctuality are essential to achieving course goals.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Please do not wear trainers - you will need soft-soled dance shoes or Latin dance shoes.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
